How to Deal with Common Road Hazards

August 21st, 2019 by

While there’s nothing quite like the feeling of driving a new Acura SUV off the lot of Acura of Huntington, it is important to remember that driving can be hazardous. From potholes to reckless drivers, the road poses a variety of different hazards. Of course, new Acura vehicles are packed to the brim with advanced safety features, but they can only do so much. Follow these tips to deal with the most common road hazards in a safe manner.

Poor Weather

When you encounter bad weather in the Roslyn, NY area, slow down and drive at a speed that matches the flow of traffic. You should also keep more distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Finally, make sure that your windshield is clean and schedule an appointment at our Acura service center to make sure that your windshield wiper blades and fluid are intact.

Reckless Drivers

Reckless drivers can be distracted, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving recklessly and slipping between traffic, or driving much slower than the speed of traffic. No matter how they’re driving recklessly, slow down, let them pass, and keep a safe distance from them.

Pedestrians

Pedestrians have been known to jaywalk or to recklessly cross the street. They create a hazard for themselves, and even though they are at fault, it is still the driver’s responsibility to do whatever they can to avoid hitting a pedestrian.

Potholes

Potholes cause distractions, and some drivers swerve around them, causing a hazard. If you encounter a pothole, keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, slow down, and drive around the pothole, if safe.
