About Halesite, NY

Halesite is a hmalet in Huntington names after Captain Nathan Hale of the Continental Army who was captured at a tavern in Halesite during the American Revolutionary War.  You can find a rock with a tribute to him at the intersection of Mill Dam Road and New York Avenue.  From the mid-19th century until about the time of World War I, Halesite was served by a trolley line – remnant of which are still visible in parts of New York Avenue.
